It was a pretty quite day because there was no morning clubhouse and there won’t be much access Sunday morning with the team’s photo day. But the Orioles did play an intrasquad game this afternoon, allowing 10 guys to get work in, with another one slated for Sunday afternoon.
*Ubaldo Jimenez had some good quality to his pitches and Zach Britton, who started the game, looked like he was in mid-season form. There was a little bit of a scary moment when Andy Oliver’s fastball got away from him, but it ended up just hitting Chance Sisco’s shoulder and he’s fine. Ryan Flaherty also hit a ball that came back and hit Chaz Roe by his left knee.
“It just hit me on the inside of the knee,” Roe said. “It’s all right, though. It hit mostly meat instead of bone. It’s stiffening up on me a little bit right now. We’ll see how it is in the morning and go from there.”
No one scored in the intrasquad game. And the plan is for Sunday’s game to go seven innings.
*Yovani Gallardo threw his first bullpen as an Oriole today and will take two days off and throw again. He’s not ready to jump right in with the rest of the O’s pitchers, but he’s not that far behind either. Gallardo threw three pitches in today’s session, which went well.
*Mike Wright or Tyler Wilson will start Tuesday’s game. Manager Buck Showalter still isn’t sure which, but both will pitch in the spring opener. Rule 5 Draft pick Joey Rickard also figures to get a lot of playing time this spring. Showalter joked he’s going to need a few pairs of gray (road) pants.
