A few pregame notes
*If catcher Matt Wieters, who tested his hamstring pregame, feels OK when he comes in tomorrow he will play. Winters has been sidelined since Tuesday.
*Mike Wright (calf strain) will throw off a full mound on Wednesday. He’s progressing, but still a ways away and will need some rehab games.
*Steve Pearce took some swings off the tee today in Sarasota, Fla. and could take live batting practice in a few days. He’s not close to returning from an oblique injury.
*Hunter Harvey (flexor mass) threw 25 pitches in a bullpen session today and all went well.
*Dylan Bundy, who has been shut down with a shoulder injury, is slated to see Dr. James Andrews on the 31st.
*House of Ruth Maryland has partnered with the Aberdeen IronBirds to host a “Man Up” cultivation event on Thursday, August 20 at the IronBirds vs. Staten Island Yankees game at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium. During the game, Mayor Bennett will also declare August 20 to be “House of Ruth Maryland Day” in Aberdeen.
Launched in 2014, House of Ruth Maryland’s “Man Up” initiative aims to shift society’s conversations on intimate partner violence, and focus on the source of the problem. With the help of the Aberdeen IronBirds, the House of Ruth Maryland will use the game as a platform to reach Harford County influencers in the community, and educate those in attendance on the mission of “Man Up,” and how to foster healthy relationships. The Aberdeen IronBirds will support House of Ruth Maryland’s “Man Up” initiative by getting the whole team involved. The team, along with the IronBirds mascot, has filmed a video showing their support for “Man Up” that will be played throughout the game. Signs and banners promoting the initiative will also be displayed across the stadium.
