Orioles @ Athletics (updated)

Greetings from the West Coast, where the O’s kick off a three-city road trip with stops in Oakland, Anaheim and Seattle. They are fresh off a four-game series split with the Tigers.

Not much pregame news to report, though Chris Tillman did throw from about 90 feet to test his ankle. Tillman said he’s definitely making progress and is hoping to throw a bullpen on Wednesday. He threw off of flat ground today and the earliest he would start is Friday. If that happens, the rest of the rotation would just slot back.

Jimmy Paredes is starting in right field today and has been doing work for the past month or so there. Orioles manager Buck Showalter isn’t afraid of trying guys in new spots -like Steve Pearce at second or first baseman Matt Wieters and this is another case of that.  Ryan Flaherty, who is the team’s emergency catcher, also caught Wei-Yin Chen’s bullpen today. Showalter said he’d like to get Flaherty in a situation with a hitter in the batters box to help familiarize him with being behind the plate.

Orioles prospect Parker Bridwell will get a second opinion on his right elbow from Dr. James Andrews. Bridwell’s first opinion said he wouldn’t need surgery and would be OK just being shut down for a little while.
