Orioles vs. Indians- Game 1

*Adam Jones is back in the starting lineup today for the Orioles, playing center field for the first time since June 15. It’s his first time in the lineup since June 20. Jones said he’s been pain free in his right shoulder while throwing for the past three days and is obviously very anxious to get back out there. O’s manager Buck Showalter wasn’t sure about his availability for Game 2, they are going to play things by ear.

*T.J. McFarland is here and will be available for Game 2 as the 26th man out of the bullpen. He will be optioned back after the game and this does not impact his current mandatory 10-day stay in the Minors. It’s a loophole that allows him to be here today while continuing to work toward the 10-day timeframe to be eligible to be recalled again. McFarland was optioned to clear a roster spot for Wei-Yin Chen on Friday.

So, why not Kevin Gausman today? The Orioles had held Gausman out of his originally scheduled start on Friday, but decided to keep their pitchers as close as possible to a schedule and went with Chris Tillman and Ubaldo Jimenez to start today. Gausman will not pitch longer than 2-3 innings for Triple-A Norfolk today, so he is an option to start Thursday’s game. Now that Tillman has been pushed back, the O’s will need a starter for that.

And before I get asked if this could deb a permanent thing, Showalter said there are no plans for a six-man rotation right now.

*Jonathan Schoop is here but will not be activated unless there’s an injury. The Os are in no rush to make a roster move and they could send him to Triple-A to continue his rehab assignment.
