Wright injured

BALTIMORE— Orioles reliever Wesley Wright has been dealing with left shoulder pain on and off recently and he said following Friday’s 12-5 loss that he believes it’s more a trapezius/neck issue that is causing sharp shooting pain.

“I’m pretty concerned,” said Wright, who velocity was down to the mid-80s during his four-out appearance on Friday. “I’m a guy who most of my career has been on the field. Not really the type of guy who even likes to be in the training room, so for me to say something, it’s something I felt that I needed to say something just so it doesn’t get any worse and do something more that could have been taken care of earlier.”

Wright, who recorded one out in the Tampa Bay series, said there aren’t any plans for tests to the area right now and the team is going to wait and see how he is on Saturday.

“It’s one of those things that’s been kind of bothering me a little bit the last couple days and it got to a point where it wasn’t going away,” he said. “You want to be out there at the beginning of the season, you want to do what you can to help the team, but it gets to the point where you’re hurting yourself as well as the team, so I decided it would be best if I said something and get it taken care of.”

Signed by the Orioles as a free agent on December 19, Wright is one of three lefties in the O’s bullpen, which currently has eight pitchers.
