More pregame notes
*Second baseman Jonathan Schoop is unavailable for Wednesday’s game as Schoop is getting dental work.
“He needs all four wisdom teeth out and he needs two teeth extracted,” manager Buck Showalter said. “They’re going to try and hold off on the wisdom teeth, but he’s going to be down for a few days.”
Schoop is 9-for-37 with two homers and two doubles in 14 spring games.
*One of the first Orioles at the Ed Smith Stadium complex every morning is outfielder Delmon Young, who arrives around 6 a.m. to get in a workout before the sun comes up.
“I’ve been doing this since 2004 [as a Devil Ray] with Carl Crawford. It’s just something I’ve always done,” Young said of his early morning habits. “He was the leader of the team when I first showed up at big league camp, so I followed him around everywhere. He would show up early, so I’d show up early.”
Young is 9-for-32 at the plate this spring and has seen plenty of time in the outfield, though he pointed out he hasn’t gotten a lot of balls hit his way. Still, much has changed in a year for Young, who was a non-roster guy last spring trying to make the team. After batting .302/.337/.442 in 83 games in 2014, Young re-signed with Baltimore this winter and is expected to he have a much bigger role this season.
