Pregame notes

*Orioles manager Buck Showalter knows who he isn’t rooting for during the NCAA men’s basketball tournament: Notre Dame.

“I want to see [Orioles prospect Pat Connaughton get eliminated as soon as possible,” Showalter said with a grin. “I’m just being frank. Not in a bad way.”

“That’s how I feel; looking at everything from the Orioles angle.”

Connaughton, a senior who helped the Irish advance to the Sweet Sixteen, was the O’s fourth-round pick in last year’s Draft. He would be able to start his pro baseball career earlier this year should the Irish be eliminated.

*Hunter Harvey will get a CT scan today after X-rays were negative on his right ankle yesterday. He’s been walking around fine, the team just wants to be sure.

*With Matt Wieters unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, the assumption is the Os will start Caleb Joseph.

According to most sources, he pitched 14.2 innings for the IronBirds last season.
