Jones and Pearce named AL Co-POW
WASHINGTON— Adam Jones and Steve Pearce have been named co-American League Players of the Week, announced on Monday as the first-place Orioles continue to receive accolades.
Jones, who was named an AL starter in this year’s All-Star game, has a 10-game hitting streak and is batting .391 over the past week with a double, a homer and four RBIs. The center fielder is coming off a weekend in Boston in which he went 5-for-14 with a walk and two runs scored and he’s hitting .310/.334/.504 in 88 games on the season.
Pearce has emerged as a force for the Orioles, earning an every day role with his hot bat. He collected a career-high four hits on Thursday and hit three home runs in the first two games of last week’s series versus the Rangers, homering in consecutive games for the second time this season. His 10 homers and 30 RBIs are both career highs.
