Orioles vs. Rangers (UPDATED)
*Major League Baseball has upheld Manny Machado’s five-game suspension, which he will start serving tonight. Machado will come back for Saturday’s game against Boston, with Chris Davis playing third base tonight. More on Machado here.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he went with Davis today because it provides the most defensively-sound infield and he noted Davis’ experience at third in the Minors as well. Davis has been quietly working with infield coach Bobby Dickerson for a few days. In a perfect world, the Orioles would like to add another infielder –and still could later in the week- but right now if they make a roster move it would be to add pitching.
Showalter didn’t rule out the possibility of making a pre game move on Monday to do just that.
*Nolan Reimold’s future with the Orioles will be decided today as the club is in the process of making an official move with Reimold. Given the way the O’s roster is constructed, it’s likely he will be designated for assignment but no word on that just yet.
*If he’s not used tonight, T.J. McFarland will start Tuesday with Chris Tillman on Wednesday and likely Wei-Yin Chen on Thursday.
*The Orioles also took infielder Michael Almanzar off the disabled list and designated him for assignment. Almanzar was their Rule 5 pick in this winter’s Draft from Boston and he will be offered to 28 other teams first before the Red Sox get to decide if they want him back or to keep the $20,000.
