Orioles @ Rays lineups and pregame notes

The Orioles rotation for the week is slowing starting to take shape, with manager Buck Showalter saying prior to Sunday’s game that Chris Tillman will start Wednesday and he’s learning toward Wei-Yin Chen for Thursday.

The O’s optioned Kevin Gausman on Friday for him to finish out his 10-day assignment in the Minors and he could come up as early as Tuesday. But now that the Orioles have set Wednesday’s starter –and won’t use Gausman on short rest Tuesday– he could wait in the Minors a little longer, especially with the team set to play a man down because of Manny Machado’s suspension.

Showalter said his “educated” guess was that Machado’s punishment from last week’s appeal would come shortly and could kick into effect as early as Monday.

If the O’s stay on turn and use Chen on Thursday, they could also get by with their current group of starters, and not need Gausman at all, if starter Bud Norris makes his disabled list period and is activated on July 7. Norris is on the DL with a groin injury and the team will know more about his timetable when he takes a work day, in the next two or three days.

*Triple-A Norfolk’s Alexi Casilla will have surgery to remove a broken hamate bone from his right hand on Tuesday.

*Showalter said Josh Stinson may miss his next start for Norfolk due to a physical issue, but right now it’s not considered a DL situation.

*Gausman and Dylan Bundy will have a work day in Aberdeen on Monday. Bundy will make his next scheduled start on Thursday for Class-A Frederick.

Sometimes I wonder if all of this uncertainty for Kevin Gausman is actually hurting his performances. Pitchers are creatures of habit and it is very easy to mess up their routine and without meaning to hurt them.

Please never pitch Chen again!! The O’s normally score a lot of runs when he is on the mound that why his record is deceptlvely good.If our exalted GM( or whatever he wants to call himself ) is worth what the O’s overpay him he would get us a QUALITY starter!! They are out there!

How many times have the Orioles sent Kevin Gausman to AAA this season. Can you tell me what the Orioles thinking process on this?
