Orioles @ Yankees Game 2

Greetings from Yankee Stadium, where the Orioles will take on the Yankees for game 2 of a three-game set.

The Orioles optioned Kevin Gausman after Friday night’s game, but the right-hander isn’t really getting demoted. The Orioles plan to add Gausman for Friday’s doubleheader and he should stay on turn with the Major League rotation after that.

How? Gausman, who was replaced on Saturday’s roster by reliever Brad Brach, will stay in the Minors for six days before he comes up on Friday. After he starts, he will be sent back down for the remaining four —since a player needs to stay in the Minors for 10 days unless it’s an injury situation— before making his next schedule turn for the Orioles. Gausman has been excellent as of late for the Orioles, going 3-0 0.94 ERA in his last three starts. He’s posted a 2.74 ERA in four starts this season and gave up 20 hits in 23 innings while striking out 16.

Brach adds relief help a day after starter Ubaldo Jimenez went just 5 2/3 innings, putting strain on a bullpen already down a man with the O’s previously employing a six-man rotation.

Why send him down to AAA anyway? This is a demotion even though you say it is NOT. Why send Jimenez down for a start or 2 or make a mystery illness. Keep Gausman with the club.

You can’t send Jimenez down.
