Orioles @ Red Sox lineups and pregame notes

Greetings from Camden Yards, where the big news today is still Manny Machado and the pending punishment for his involvement in yesterday’s benches-clearing brawl with the Athletics.

The O’s took the field late for pre game batting practice as they held a team meeting to discuss Machado’s actions –which included flipping a bat to third base and twice hitting A’s catcher Derek Norris with his backswing. Manager Buck Showalter said Machado had some remorse today and the club is planning on being without him in the event –which sees very likely– that Machado is suspended.

*Orioles catcher Matt Wieters is going to see Dr. James Andrews next Monday, with Wieters not progressing as quickly as he had hoped in dealing with a right elbow injury.

Wieters, who played catch again on Monday in his every-other-day progression, is still experiencing some discomfort and wanted to see Andrews to get his opinion. Showalter said he is hoping to see Wieters back with the team on Tuesday, although there’s nothing definite right now. Wieters is trying to avoid season-ending surgery on his elbow and has been going the rest-and-rehab route since his last game on May 10.

He has not caught a game for the Orioles since May 4 and Showalter said previously that July 1 is when the team will have to make a more definitive decision on what to do for Wieters so that he could be an option for 2015 still.

*Josh Stinson is here and will be activated shortly as the Orioles were forced to use both of their long relievers following Ubaldo Jimenez’s short start on Sunday.

I hope Markakis is still leading off and playing RF. (8 in the line-up, no one listed for RF.)

Yes, he is. Thanks for pointing out the typo. -Britt

Hey Britt !
Thanks for keeping us Updated with ALL the Latest Orioles News … You do a Great Job; even tho’ I am sure that it doesn’t seem like WORK when You Love the Team
like you do …
So … On to the BIG NEWS !! What is going on with Manny ? We all know that he is
still just a KID at 21 yrs.old but his Actions ( as much as Buck is Backing Him and all )
are Totally out of Context with being an Oriole !! I must say from my own point of View that he has Jeopardized the Team as a Whole with his Actions and that Stinks!!
We are in a Pennant Race and we Need him Both Offensively and Defensively on
the Field; NOT SITTING OUT A SUSPENSION FOR ACTING LIKE A CHILD !! His
taking Exception to Donaldson’s Tag the other day;” SHOWS NO CLASS AT ALL !! ”
Well, it is GAME ON NOW as we start this series with the Boston Red Sox – just in
case Anyone has Forgotten; they are ” The Defending World Champions !! ” and
now we will Probably be SITTING Our BEST THIRD BASEMAN !!
TIME FOR THE ORIOLES TO TAKE A ” REALITY CHECK ” AND DEAL WITH THIS
LATEST BLOW – UP ! I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WAS A TEAM MEETING AND
I AM SURE IT WAS ” CLOSED DOOR ” BUT I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO BE A FLY
ON THE WALL IN THAT MEETING TO HEAR WHAT THE OTHER PLAYERS, AS WELL AS THE COACHING STAFF HAD TO SAY ABOUT MANNY’S ACTIONS !!!
Believe Me Britt – I played Sports in High School and College and I would have
been one of the FIRST PLAYERS – OUT OF THE DUGOUT TO BACK MY TEAMMATE; BUT WE HAVE TO DRAW A LINE SOMEWHERE OR WE COULD HAVE
LOST MORE PLAYERS OR SOMEONE COULD HAVE GOTTEN PHYSICALLY INJURED AND WE WOULD HAVE LOST THEM FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, A
YEAR OR SOMEONE COULD HAVE EVEN LOST THEIR CAREER IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL …
C’MON O’S !!!! LET’S SHOW SOME COMMON SENSE AND SOME CLASS HERE !!
