Cruz exits game, X-Rays negative
HOUSTON—The Orioles lost their best player after just 2 1/2 innings on Sunday, with Nelson Cruz exiting after taking a pitch off his left hand. Cruz is listed as day-to-day with a left hand contusion and X-Rays taken during Sunday’s game were negative.
Cruz was in obvious pain after Astros starter Scott Feldman’s second pitch struck his hand and the head athletic trainer Richie Bancells came out immediately along with manager Buck Showalter. After several minutes, Cruz trotted to first base but he was replaced in left field for the bottom of the third inning.
Cruz entered the day with a Major League-leading 20 homers, and set a new team record for 52 RBIs through May. He was replaced in right field by David Lough, who moved over from left field, with Delmon Young also entering the game.
