Orioles @ Tigers lineups and pregame notes

Greetings from Camden Yards, where the Orioles will try to avoid being swept by the Tigers in this afternoon’s series finale. Kevin Gausman will be making his series debut against Detroit’s ace Justin Verlander.

*If the Orioles do get into a save opportunity, will struggling right-hander Tommy Hunter get the ball? Manager Buck Showalter would only say, “we’ll see” adding that he hoped the club had a lead and it’s at least four runs. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Asked if Zach Britton would potentially be a guy to fit the ninth inning, Showalter said yes and didn’t elaborate.

*Bad news for right-hander Steve Johnson, who had some right shoulder discomfort and exited last night’s game for Triple-A Norfolk with the injury after just two innings. Johnson was on the disabled list earlier this season with tendinitis and he’s clearly still bothered by the issue. If healthy he would be an option for the O’s and almost was promoted instead of Gausman.

*The Orioles will have another coach for Saturday and Tuesday’s games with manager Buck Showalter noting this morning that director of player development Brian Graham will likely be on hand for Saturday’s game in Kansas City. Showalter is attending his daughter’s graduation and missing the game and Graham will fill in as bench coach with John Russell as acting manager.

Third base coach Bobby Dickerson will miss Tuesday’s game in Pittsburgh for his daughter’s graduation and Showalter said they could potentially have Graham also be there for that game. Dave Anderson is another option.
