Os activate Davis, Wieters to DL

The Orioles activated first baseman Chris Davis and placed catcher Matt Wieters on the 15-day disabled list before Sunday’s game.

Davis, who hadn’t played since April 25 due to an oblique strain, is batting third against Houston. He has hit .250 with two home runs and 13 RBIs in 22 games this season.

Wieters has been limited to just designated hitter due to right elbow discomfort and the O’s are looking at external options which is never a good sign. Manager Buck Showalter said the team doesn’t feel like DH’ing was making things worse but they do want Wieters –who will remain with the team — to totally rest and get treatment on the area.

They will see where he is and if he hits the six-week mark –roughly July 1- and still isn’t ready to throw they will have to look at other options including the potential for surgery. That’s still something they hope can be avoided.
