Orioles @ Astros lineups and pregame notes

Greetings from Camden Yards, where the Orioles will try to extend a four-game winning streak in game two against the Astros. Today’s game notes are brought to you courtesy of John Russell, who is filling in for manager Buck Showalter pre game. Showalter will be back for tonight’s game, but flew to Texas today to attend son Nathan’s undergraduate graduation.

Russell will manage next Saturday’s game in Kansas City while Showalter flies to see his daughter, Allie, graduate from law school. It will be the first game he’s missed as Orioles manager.

*Chris Davis starts his rehab assignment tonight at Double-A Bowie and he’s eligible to come off the disabled list tomorrow, though that is still up in the air. It’s certainly possible Davis is added to the Orioles roster on Sunday, although the team isn’t going to rush him back. The plan for Davis -weather permitting- is to play seven innings at first base although he can campaign for more.

*Matt Wieters continues to serve as designated hitter and Russell said it will be at least a couple days before Wieters tries to throw. The Orioles are taking it slow with Wieters, who is dealign with some right elbow discomfort, and it could be a week or two weeks depending on how he feels before he tries to play catch.
