Orioles vs. Pirates- Game 1 of 2

Greetings from Camden Yards, where the Orioles will play the first of two games against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a straight-through doubleheader that starts at 4 p.m.

*With the rain finally subsiding, the Orioles have reinstated Manny Machado from the disabled list and optioned Steve Lombardozzi to Triple-A Norfolk. Machado is not starting in the first game but is available off the bench, a move that manager Buck Showalter said he did because he didn’t want Machado to get all warmed up to play in Game 1 and then sit around and potentially fill in hours later in Game 2. He’d prefer to do it this way. Machado, who is coming off a rehab assignment, was never going to play both games on his first day back.

*Steve Pearce, who the Orioles re-signed last night, is in at first base and is one of several options with Davis out. Showalter won’t commit to just one guy. Ryan Flaherty and Nick Markakis are also options.

*Showalter will try to get every player in at least one of the games given that the O’s last played on Sunday afternoon. He was joking that it was the team’s All-Star break this week.

With Lombardozzi out, Jemile Weeks is starting at second base and the O’s felt like he was a better option right now with Machado back. Weeks could be the guy to go when the O’s make an in-game move to active Troy Patton from the suspended list, but Showalter said he’s comfortable with just a 12-man pitching staff so it’s looking more likely to be an arm to go. That, of course, will all depend on how the first game goes.

*Ubaldo Jimenez has left for Minnesota already, where he will start Friday’s night series opener against the Twins.

*Johan Santana got favorable reports in his sim game and he will make his extended spring debut on Saturday. Santana topped out at 87 mph on the gun and averaged closer to the mid-80s.

Hey Britt – going to be a Very Long Day / Night for you and the Orioles !!
It will be Great to See Manny in Person and I am Quite Sure Banging the
Ball for the Orioles Today ! This young 3rd Baseman is going to be Pushing
Brooks Robinson for – ” Third Baseman that will NEVER be Forgotten ! ”
Manny is so Versatile and will bring some Much Needed DEFENSE at the
Hot Corner for us. Then Toss in the FACT that his BAT is something that can
bring CHEERS, MOANS, ( to the other teams ). and ELATION in One Swift
Stroke ….. WOW !! Just what the Doctor Ordered for our Birds !!

Time to start Making our Presence KNOWN thru out the AL EAST as being; ” THE TEAM TO BEAT !! ” I am a FIRM BELIEVER that the Orioles are Pr-Destined to WIN the AL East this Year !! Going to be Tough to come up with a Large number of
Wins due to the FACT that we are All beating up on each other here in the
AL East !! With that in Mind … It could be that BOTH WILD CARD TEAMS IN

What is the Updated Status on Chris Davis, Britt ? Looking Forward to his Return
to the Line-Up as Not Only, his BAT but his DEFENSE are Sorely Missed by All of Us.

Should be a Great Day for Bud Norris and Chris Tillman Today ! These two are
( Especially Chris ! ) Truly the Heart of Our Pitching Staff !! Speaking of Pitching-
