Orioles vs. Royals Game 2 (updated)

Greetings from Camden Yards, where the Orioles will take on the Royals for the second game of a three-game series.

*Chris Davis is not in the starting lineup and is waiting to hear the results from this morning’s MRI on his left oblique to know more about the severity of the injury. Davis said he does feel better today than last night –when he was removed after four innings– and is still optimistic it won’t be a disabled list situation.

With Davis down, the Orioles are going with Nick Markakis at first base tonight. September 4, 2011 was Markakis’ last start at first base. He has played in three career games, two starts at first, in the Majors.

They’ve also recalled Jemile Weeks, who will help add infield depth, with the roster spot vacated by optioning T.J. McFarland.

*Manny Machado made his rehab debut last night for the Frederick Keys, which you can read about here. Machado is playing this afternoon at third for Frederick as he continues to work his way back. The All-Star could return as early as next weekend and you can read more on that here.

*Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he will wait and see how Bud Norris’ work day goes before deciding if he’ll start Wednesday’s game against the Pirates. Norris dealt with a little hamstring tightness during his last start in Toronto.

*Johan Santana will throw three innings in a simulated game on Monday and he will make his extended spring debut on May 3, pitching one inning or 15-20 pitches.

glad the Orioles signed all those middle infielders in the offseason.

What happened to Delmon Young? Is he becoming the 5th OF ? Is his lack of defense ? what gives?

Where is Delmon Young?

I have no idea. Will ask Buck about it if it continues.
