Orioles @ Blue Jays Game 3

Greetings from Toronto, where the Orioles will wrap up a seven-game road trip tonight in the series finale against the Blue Jays.

Not much in the way of pre-game news, but there is some rehabbing updates. M

Manny Machado, who will start a rehab assignment with the Frederick Keys on Friday, is slated to bat second and play third base for nine innings. He will be re-evaluated after the weekend and could return by early May. In that scenario, Machado would play a couple games at Double-A or Triple-A and likely take a day off before rejoining the Os as the calendar flips next weekend.

Dylan Bundy, who was cleared to throw curveballs in his last bullpen, will throw a 40-pitch ‘pen again Friday. Johan Santana, who is on a five-day rotation schedule in his rehab, will also throw a side tomorrow.

Shortstop J.J. Hardy, who returned to the lineup yesterday, will no longer discuss the status of his contract, which has him set to be a free agent at the end of this year. Hardy, who has respectfully fielded questions from reporters since Spring Training, doesn’t want anything to distract from what’s going on with the Orioles on the field and is well aware of how words can get twisted around and taken out of context. So, he’s decided to not say anything until there’s actual news and has kindly asked the media to stop asking him about it.

“There’s nothing to discuss,” Hardy said of any potential extension talks between his agent and the Orioles. “I don’t want to make stories that don’t need to be made. There’s been no discussions so I do not want to talk about it anymore until something changes.”
