Orioles @ Giants lineups and pregame notes

Back at it again at AT&T Park in the first of two day games to cap the three-game set against the Giants. The Orioles are fresh off last night’s 5-2 win (which you can read about here) and are 3-0 on their three-city West Coast road trip.

*Nick Markakis is batting fifth, a move that manager Buck Showalter thinks provides the best protection for a lineup without catcher Matt Wieters, who is getting  the day off.

*In case you missed it, Jason Hammel had a cortisone injection yesterday and the right-hander, who is dealing with tightness in his flexor mass –which is where the forearm and elbow connect– is progressing along slower than hoped. Hammel said today he’s aware that flexor mass issues often morph into elbow problems and –given that the ligament is fine now– he’s going to be careful and make sure things are right before he comes back. He will rest for a few days now and try to play catch either in Arizona or at home next week.

*Miguel Gonzalez will start Tuesday’s game, following Scott Feldman in Arizona.

I’m so sick of Teagarden. We just had two off days this week and he can’t catch a day game after a night game? Buster Posey can. He’ll also catch tomorrow. I don’t get it.

I don’t think I’ve seen a worse major league hitter, how is his .130 average acceptable?

And another weak ground ball to the right side by Nick Markakis. Ho-hum. Good at-bat by Jones, however.

Every time we get on a roll Buck takes Weiters out and changes the line up. Result has been a loss and losing streak to follow. Weiters has to be the most rested catcher in the game. This is why we don’t have winning streaks of any length I hope we pull it out in spite of batting Flaherty Teagarden and pitcher 7,8 and 9. No DH Weiters must play. You just can’t play 7 against 9. NL pitchers do know how to bunt and move up runners. Batting Markakis 5th are you kidding me. Top three should never change drop DAVIS AND Jones down a slot keeping them in position to drive in runs not Markakis and Hardy. Killing us.

Exactly. How is the offense supposed to be consistent when the lineup changes on a daily basis. Most overrated team in baseball in my humble opinion. Especially offensively. All they do is try to hit homeruns.
