Orioles vs. Mariners game 2

Derek on the blog today for Brittany. We’ve got a few notes to get to as I look out over the tarp-covered and rain-soaked Camden Yards infield. It’s not raining at the moment, for what that’s worth.

*Brian Roberts’ wife gave birth last night to the couple’s first child, Jax Isaac. Roberts, who was placed on the paternity list yesterday to be with his wife, will not be with the team Saturday and could possibly miss Sunday, too. Manager Buck Showalter said he expects Roberts to be on the team plane to San Diego when the team leaves for the west coast road trip.

*Jason Hammel received good news on his MRI from yesterday: no structural damage, just inflammation around the ulnar nerve. He said he’ll take 2-3 days off from throwing and continue taking anti-inflammatories.  He plans to travel with the team on its west coast road trip and said he should be on target to return when he’s eligible, August 13.

*JJ Hardy is not in the starting lineup Saturday for the first time this season. It’s just a day off for the shortstop, who didn’t get the All-Star break off. He says he’s not 100 percent but added that nobody is this time of season and could have started if he was needed. He said he’ll use the day to recharge for the stretch drive.
