Orioles vs. the Yankees

Derek filling in on the blog for Brittany today. The Orioles host the Yankees in the series finale on Sunday Night Baseball. ESPN has the telecast. For now, the tarp is off the field and the Orioles are going through BP and pregame workouts as normal. It’s overcast, though. As always, I’ll keep you posted on weather over Twitter. If you’re not already doing so, give me a follow (@DerekatDotCom) for in-game updates and Orioles news.

*Brian Roberts (hamstring), was activated earlier today and is playing in his first game tonight. He’ll DH and bat 9th. To make room for Roberts, the Orioles optioned Jair Jurrjens off the 25-man roster. If he clears optional waivers, a 72-hour clock starts for him to report to Triple-A Norfolk. It’s a slightly unusual DFA situation, but it came about because the Orioles are under the 40-man roster limit.

*The Orioles traded Minor League infielder Ty Kelly to Seattle on Sunday in exchange for Eric Thames, whom the Orioles designated to Triple-A Norfolk.

*Nolan Reimold (hamstring) hit a homerun for Double-A Bowie in the Baysox first of two games Sunday. With impending weather, it’s likely Reimold will not play in the second game.

*Tsuyoshi Wada (Tommy John in May 2012) pitched well for Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday, and has now strung together several good starts in a row. The left-hander’s line from Saturday: 6 1/3 innings, five hits, two earned runs, six strikeouts and two walks.
