Yankees vs. Orioles lineups and pregame notes

Greetings from Camden Yards, where the Orioles will take on the New York Yankees in a weekend set to cap the homestand. New York will send CC Sabtahia to the mound tonight, which was originally the plan but the Yanks had a mixup on their game notes that had David Phelps, who will go tomorrow instead.

Orioles rookie T.J. McFarland will make his first start tonight opposite Sabathia, with manager Buck Showalter delivering the news to the 24-year-old McFarland after Thursday’s game.

A few pregame news and notes…

*Brian Roberts will play again for Triple-A Norfolk tonight and provided that goes well, he will use Saturday as a travel day and be activated on Sunday. That’s the planfor now

*Top position player prospect Jonathan Schoop (lower back) has been doing “baseball-like activities” according to Showalter, and the target date for him to start playing again is July 17.

*Wilson Betemit, who was shut down for several days due to some soreness, has resumed baseball activities. Betemit is rehabbing back from right knee surgery, which has been a slow process.

*Steve Johnson is throwing off flat ground at the team’s spring facility in Sarasota, Fla., while Steve Pearce (wrist) has not been cleared for baseball activities.

*Wei-Yin Chen will start for Double-A Bowie tomorrow night in his first –and perhaps only–rehab game. Chen will be accompanied by bullpen coach Bill Castro.

*Nolan Reimold is serving at designated hitter for Bowie tonight and the expectation is still that he will be activated for the start of Tuesday’s roadtrip in Chicago.

“with manager Buck Showalter delivering the news to the 24-year-old McFarland after the game” I bet that will be a big surprise to McFarland and the easiest game he never did pitch🙂
“Chris” Stewart C for Yankees

Don’t have to say what a big series it is this weekend but the pressure is on the Yankees with the O’s playing with house money and expecting many more O’s fans and not the huge contigent of Yanks fans that used to show up in the last couple of years.
The O’s are playing good ball now and can take on any team in either league right now and even CC Sabathia. What a series for all baseball fans!

Britt, what’s your read on the Hunter/JJ situation that played out? Was Buck resting JJ, sending a message, or auditioning for the position? Hunter’s 0.86 WHIP is outstanding and gives the team a great shot for a 1-2-3 non-drama filled win. Thanks!
