Orioles option Gausman

The Orioles announced after Thursday’s 5-4, 13-inning game against Boston that they’ve optioned starter Kevin Gausman to Triple-A Norfolk. A corresponding move will be announced prior to Friday’s game although it seems fairly obvious they need a fresh reliever.

Gausman, who turned in 5 1/3 solid frames in his fifth Major League start went 0-3 with a 7.66 ERA.

The 22-year-old Gausman struck out five on Thursday and surrendered six hits, allowing a pair of runs on back-to-back homers in the fourth inning. Designated hitter David Ortiz sent a 1-1 pitch into the seats and Mike Carp –an in-game replacement for a sick Mike Napoli—followed, blasting Gausman’s changeup over the right centerfield wall.

This kid is for real. His issue is his youth. He need more and better consistency. Last night the Sox were off balance with the change in tempos and the ball down in the zone. My own thinking is he should spot and use his changeup a bit more. BUT that is small stuff compared to the success and history this guy is going to display.

I continue to believe the O’s need to early jump on someone to add to the starter role in trade. The Cubs are offering (?) Scott Feldman. He seems the type we need to finish the playoff run. Too he is due a new contract a season end. What will he or someone like him cost without Gausman OR Bundy????
clearly we do not know how Chen will return. Hammel has not displayed he is a force this season. Gausman is developing. And we can afford his development in the rotation IF we have 3 solid starters. Tillman and Gonzalez have displayed the consistency. What is either gets injured? I do not see the minors currently filling the starter rotation need. Arrieta seems to be working his way into any trade and off this team with performances in the minors. Britton seems to fragile and inconsistent. Steve Johnson could spot start, but I seem to like him in the relief corp in specialty and long relief.

We need to make some adjustments and continue with the Orioles 2013 DESTINY- Deep Playoff Run!!! Get on the train now or miss the fun.
