Orioles vs. Tigers

After taking three of four from the Nationals in the Battle of the Beltway, the Orioles will host the Detroit Tigers for a three-game set featuring two of the American League’s best offenses.

*Backup catcher Taylor Teagarden (dislocated left thumb) will catch tonight in an extended  spring training game. He may join one of the team’s Minor League affiliates on rehab assignment if all goes well.

*Reliever Pedro Strop (strained lower back) could throw a simulated game soon and then get at least one outing with a minor league affiliate before being reactivated from the 15-day disabled list.

*Manager Buck Showalter said he got good reports on Zach Britton’s start last night at Triple-A Norfolk. Britton threw 5 innings and struck out 5 batters with two walks in a losing effort.

*Tsuyoshi Wada is scheduled to make another rehab start tonight for Triple-A Norfolk. Showalter said yesterday he still views Wada as a starter, but wouldn’t commit to the role. Once healthy, his arm could be a worthwhile addition to the bullpen.

*Just a reminder on your weekend pitching matchups for this weekend versus Detroit: Miguel Gonzalez vs. Max Scherzer, Jason Hammel vs. Justin Verlander (FOX game) and Kevin Gausman vs. Rick Porcello.
