Arrieta recalled, Reimold to DL

The Orioles made a pair of roster moves today, recalling right-handed pitcher Jake Arrieta and placing outfielder Nolan Reimold on the disabled list with a right hamstring strain. They also optioned reliever Alex Burnett to Triple-A Norfolk and added starter Jair Jurrjens to the 40-man roster, moving Brian Roberts to the 60-day DL to make a 40-man spot.

Arrieta will work out of the bullpen, at least for now, and he could be a starting option on Monday or Tuesday. The Orioles have not decided on a starter for Monday yet, although that would be Freddy Garcia’s day. Miguel Gonzalez is still tentatively slated to come off the DL and start Tuesday.

With Reimold’s injury, it’s something that has slowed him since this spring and it isn’t getting better. He will remain with the Orioles at least through the homestand with his DL stay backdated to Sunday. Arrieta, who was dealing with some right shoulder tenderness, said he’s feeling much better and he was slated to start for Triple-A Norfolk today had he not been promoted. Arrieta last threw a pair of side sessions on Wednesday and Thursday and said he’s worked hard to take the emotion out of pitching.

Why Arrieta again, let’s give someone else a chance. I’m sure there are more deserving players in the queue. Also, why are we carrying 3 2nd baseman on the roster when we need starting pitching so badly. I’m really questioning Buck and the front office decisions. Lastly, I’ve noticed ever since the O’s were ranked 1st on the Power Rankings last week they’ve choked, it seems they were best under the radar but the minute the spotlight was put on them they felt the pressure. They worked so hard to get to the top of the heap, when you get there don’t blow it. I’ve been an O’s fan for 47 years and now is our time, let’s bring up some new young pitchers and go for the throat in the AL East.
