Ayala, Reimold and Gonzalez notes
*Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold left Sunday’s game with right hamstring tightness and will be re-evaluated on Monday.
Reimold was replaced by Nate McLouth in the left field in the top of the seventh inning with the Orioles leading the Minnesota Twins, 3-2. With the O’s already playing down a bench player with an extra pitcher, the team will make contingency plans and, according to manager Buck Showalter, could have those plans in place for tomorrow’s game in Boston.
*Miguel Gonzalez will pitch in New York with the Orioles opting to just give him some extra rest.
“We are not matching people up,” Showalter said. “We are going to have 20-something games in a row, we got an opportunity here, it’s not going to come very often. We are going to hopefully be pitching him every fifth day for a long, long [time]. He’s got a chance if he stays healthy to pitch over 200 innings. So we want to have him in good shape for the long haul. “
*Luis Ayala left today’s game around the seventh inning and went to a local hospital. It’s unlikely he travels with the team tonight to Boston.
“[He] just didn’t feel well at all,” Showalter said of Ayala. “Had some things you normally don’t have and they decided after looking at him, better go check it out. I’ve got a pretty good idea of what we’re dealing with. See how things go.”
