Spring Training Day 29 news & notes
*Nick Markakis who has a small herniated disk, will be sidelined at least another 7-10 days and remains optimistic that he will be ready when the regular season starts next month. You can read more on that here.
*The Orioles and OriolesREACH, along with All Faiths Food Bank and media partner the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, will host the third annual Food Drive at Ed Smith Stadium this Friday, March 15. Fans attending the 1:05 p.m. game against the Boston Red Sox are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items with them for donation to the All Faiths Food Bank. In addition to food items, the Orioles will also collect monetary donations at ballpark entry gates.
All Faiths Food Bank gathers and, in co-operation with 160 partner agencies, distributes food to more than 7,100 people weekly in Sarasota and DeSoto counties. The past two food drives at Ed Smith Stadium collected over 2,000 pounds of food and $2,400 in cash donations for hungry people in the local community.
*Orioles right-hander Chris Tillman (abdominal soreness) said he’s feeling “much better” and he will throw in a simulated game of sorts tomorrow. Tillman still isn’t sure when he will get in an actual game, but he’s played catch with no problem and continues to receive treatment on the area.
