*Cuban outfielder Henry Urrutia held court today, through Felipe Alou Jr. {director of the Dominican Republic academy) translating, and I’ll have the full story up shortly on Orioles.com. You can read some background on Urrutia here, and he was very impressive in meeting the media today. Executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette and manager Buck Showalter were both present for the presser, with Duquette stating that it’s possible Urrutia is in the Major Leagues at some point this season.

Seen primarily as a corner outfielder, Urrutia can also play first base –although Showalter said the plan is outfield this spring– and he will be in Minor League camp trying to get back into baseball shape. He last played in a game in 2010 and was scouted by Fred Ferreira and national crosschecker Danny Haas when he defected to the Dominican Republic. Urrutia, 26, was a switch-hitter but he’s had more success as a left-handed hitter and will stick with that right now. The original plan was to start him at Double-A Bowie and that should be the case provided he catches up here in camp.

*Dylan Bundy threw a light side session yesterday, as part of the biomechanical lab testing, and he will throw again on Thursday. Bundy, who was pushed back because of a groin spasm on Friday, will pitch in Sarasota’ game against the Red Sox along with Kevin Gausman. Manager Buck Showalter joked about Bundy overthrowing if he pitched second, so he will probably start that game.

*Nick Markakis still isn’t playing –as expected — and probably won’t tomorrow either with Showalter hoping to get him in on Sunday. The team is being really cautious with Markakis, who has been dealing with neck stiffness, and the same goes for getting Nolan Reimold in the field.

Both Markakis and Reimold –who has right shoulder shoulder and is serving at designated hitter– could play in the field on Sunday. It’s a longer than normal Spring Training (games were just starting around this time last year) and there’s really no rush at this point, especially for the position players.

*Jim Johnson and Darren O’Day are slated to make their first official spring outing today against Team Spain. They’ve been what Showalter calls “slow-played” this spring because of how long camp is.

*Zach Britton is scheduled to follow Jake Arrieta today with the rest of the pitching through Saturday updated previously in the blog. Sunday’s pitchers will be Chris Tillman and Miguel Gonzalez.

*Showalter and Duquette will sit down in the day or so and discuss the first round of cuts from Major League camp, with Minor League camp starting up at Twin Lakes Park.

*Taylor Teagarden (lower back) started baseball activities yesterday and will do more of the same (throwing, running, etc) today. The team is also taking it really slow with him, for the same reason as the other injured guys.

*Wei-Yin Chen is the cover athlete for “MLB 13 The Show” game on PS3 in Asia and Japan and his interpreter Tim Lin was showing off the cover art on his phone. A pretty cool honor for Chen.

This lineup seems to point to those that Buck wants to see more about not necessarily those going to make 25 man roster.
