Orioles vs Rays lineups and pregame notes

*Jason Hammel was seen by team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens today and the plan is for him to get an MRI on his right knee Thursday morning at 10 a.m. The team won’t know anything further until then, although Hammel was a little encouraged that his knee didn’t have a lot of swelling.

*Wei-Yin Chen will start on Thursday with Joe Saunders  scheduled for Friday. Chris Tillman felt fine today after yesterday’s bullpen session and is in line to start one of this weekend’s games with Zach Britton an option for the other.

*Nick Markakis is here and will continue to travel with the team while waiting the three weeks necessary to have the pins removed from his left thumb. Markakis said the plan after that is to rehab and his timetable is 3-4 weeks depending on how quickly he heals.

*Troy Patton and Jim Thome are both progressing along well and the pair will go to instructional league to continue their respective rehabs. Thome could start swinging a bat in games later this week while Patton will likely start throwing in instrux games at the beginning of next week, according to manager Buck Showalter.

*The Orioles today issued a challenge to all elementary, middle and high schools in the state of Maryland to “Go Orange” and demonstrate their support for the Orioles.  Schools are encouraged to decorate their classrooms, gymnasium and other indoor spaces; adorn the outside of their school or athletic fields with an Orioles look; or to involve students in demonstrating their Orioles pride, including wearing orange or Orioles clothing. Schools will be judged on their overall creativity, school spirit and “best use of orange.” The winning school will receive a visit from an Orioles player and the Oriole Bird on Thursday, September 27, just before the Orioles play the Red Sox in their final home regular season series of the year during Fan Appreciation Weekend.

For more information, students, teachers and school administrators are invited to visit www.orioles.com/GoOrange. Details regarding a school’s involvement can be submitted, along with a photo, at this website beginning on Friday. Only school administrators are eligible to submit a form and only one form should be submitted per school. Entries must be received by Thursday, September 20.

Dear miss Ghiroli greetings :

About the O’s vs Ray’s 14th inning 3-2 game on Thursday

First, who’s writing the comment is not a Orioles’ fan, but like MLB in general

Second, for Christ’s sake, let Chen be ease will you? he is proved not to be a long-inning strong stamina pitcher, at most 6~7 innings are more than enough for the rookie, so with the team leading 2-1, why let him went to the mount in the top of the 8th? just for the no-decision tie? make not sense

By the way, God bless you & the O’s for a great season
