Orioles @ Rays

Not a whole lot of pregame notes today, but I’ll have a blog and story up on Orioles.com later on the upcoming Trade Deadline and the latest rumblings. Here’s all I got for you…

*Jason Hammel (knee surgery) is still resting and has “the right kind of soreness” according to manager Buck Showalter. He is expected to report to Sarasota, Fla. along with infielder Robert Andino (left shoulder strain) to start rehab exercises as the next step.

*The team officially signed Cuban outfielder Henry Urrutia to a Minor League contract. He will be assigned to Double-A Bowie after reporting to Sarasota.

Brit,
I see that Choo of the Indians would be avaialble since the Indians may be fading. What would it take to get him? I would play him in right feild and Markekis at 1b
If we were to add Headley of San Diego this would finish it for me. The defense would be strong and the offense would be vastly improved. Of course this too adds the necessary help for the pitching. No further Adventuires on hits to 3b and better coverage for 1b. More runss for off nights by pitching.
So how much the dreamer am I?

You’re advocating moving Markakis, one of your best fielders, to 1B full time? Not happening. And while he may be had, the Orioles have to be careful here. they don’t have enough chips to bring back more than one player- and it probably won’t be a headliner. They aren’t wasting it on Choo. There’s interest in Headley, but there’s one of many teams and if it goes into a bidding war it’d be tough for the O’s to win with that farm system. –Britt
