Reimold out at least first half

Nolan Reimold (herniated disk) will not rejoin the Orioles before the All-Star break, as manager Buck Showalter hinted at worse news, but would only go as far as to count out Reimold for the season’s first half until the team gets the results from a second cervical specialist.

Reimold saw a cervical specialist in Baltimore over the weekend in hopes of providing more clarity about why he is still experiencing discomfort and tingling in the area –and specifically his left side– although Thursday’s MRI showed the herniated disk had shrunk. Showalter said the team has an idea what it is dealing with after this weekend’s appointment, but did not want to make the news public until Reimold had a second opinion, also in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins Hospital, on Monday.

The Orioles’ Opening Day left fielder, Reimold has had two epidural injections and hasn’t played since April 30 because of the injury. He hit .313 with a .627 slugging percentage in 67 at-bats before hitting the DL, where he was transferred from the 15 to the 60-day.

I have been out of work for the last 15 mos. due to muscular skeletal disease. I also was diagnosed as having a bulging disc. went thru two cortisone shots, two well known physical therapist and now seeing another specialist. Have had 2 mri’s 2 exrays and 2 cat scans as well as ultra sound. I am not a professional athlete but earned my living on my feet 8 to 12 hrs a day over the last 30 yrs. I am and have been on pain meds and steroids after trying several other prescription meds that did not help. Nothing, Nothing is helping. So that said, I do not have a lot of confidence that Nolan is ever coming back. The pain is so severe at times it makes your knees buckle. The pain is unpredictable. Basic things you take for granted like sitting, stranding ,bending, twisting, lying down etc, can cause unbearable pain. You just never know when the pain will hit you. Trust me when I say when it does it feels like someone is stabbing you in the back and twisting the knife. I feel very bad for Nolan and the O’s because he would be such an asset to the team. Hope he finds a solution to the problem that allows him to play again. However knowing what I know I hope he can just have some quality of life at his age. Not being able to play baseball at the major league level is the least of his problems. Living the rest of your life in pain is a major league challenge for sure. Good luck and God Bless Nolan. Hope you have better results then I am having. O’s4ever

Very disturbing news about Nolan Reimold. I remember him diving into the stands chasing a left field foul ball sometime in April and tumbling over head first into the seats. I wonder if that is when his injury occurred?
