Reynolds headed to 15-day DL

Mark Reynolds said Saturday that he’s headed to the 15-day disabled list to rest an injured oblique. Reynolds was not in yesterday’s lineup but hurt the muscle making a throw during batting practice.

“It’s not too bad, but it’s one of those things where if I push it it’ll get worse,” Reynolds said, “So I’m just going to get it better before anything else happens.”

Reynolds said the training staff has done numerous test on him, and that the oblique feels stiff and sore. He said this is the first trip to the DL in his six-year Major League career.

Reynolds has played third base, first base and designated hitter for the Orioles this season, batting .191 with two home runs and nine RBI. After a slow start at the plate, Reynolds had started to show signs of a turnaround, hitting .308 with both home runs in May.

“It seemed like I was swinging it well, seeing the ball well and then this happens,” Reynolds said. “But it is what it is. You roll with the punches and hopefully I’ll come back healthy and better.”

“I do know a lot of treatment, a lot of rest, and we’ll get it better.”
