Notes & images from camp day 15 (updated twice)

*It’s the final workout before games begin on Monday, so it should be an abbreviated workout for the Orioles. In case you missed it here’s the notebook from yesterday’s intrasquad action.

*Jason Berken (left hamstring) is scheduled to play catch, while Willie Eyre (groin) threw off a half mound Saturday and will throw a bullpen session on Monday.

*The pitchers for Monday afternoon’s game at Port Charlotte are as follows: Alfredo Simon, Brad Bergesen, Zach Phillips, Miguel Socolovich, and Pedro Strop. Monday night’s game vs. Tampa Bay will have Brian Matusz, Kevin Gregg, Matt Lindstrom, Troy Patton, Darren O’Day and Oscar Villarreal.

*Zach Britton (left shoulder inflammation) threw his second bullpen this morning alongside Jim Johnson. Right now, the schedule for Britton would have him throw again on Tuesday and the best-case scenario is having him pitch in the team’s scheduled “B” game on Sunday, March 11. If Britton goes two innings there and continues to progress forward, he could make five starts and get up to six innings, which would certainly have him in competition for a spot in the Opening Day rotation. The Orioles plan to have at least two “B” games right now to help deal with the need to give their starting options enough innings. The off day on March 19 is another option.

Plans with Britton change daily (there’s several different schedules) and are all based on his health and how he feels. But the club remains confident they can get him between 20-24 spring innings. The thinking behind starting him in a B game on Sunday is that the team could control the environment, similar to what they are doing with Tommy Hunter (lower back) who will throw two innings in a simulated game Tuesday.

*Johnson will throw two live batting practice sessions before getting into a game, which could be next Sunday as well. He is no longer getting treatment on his back, just doing maintenance work, and was happy with how Sunday’s ‘pen went, particularly how he threw his curveball.

*The Orioles have released pitcher Dennys Reyes for failure to report. Reyes was signed to a Minor League deal this offseason. The club is still waiting on catcher Ronnie Paulino, who is having visa issues.

*Tsuyoshi Wada (left elbow discomfort) continues to progress toward getting back on the mound, throwing from up to 120 feet this morning. Wada will throw again Monday up to 120 feet, and get to a half-mound after that.

*Here is the list of the Orioles’ spring games that can be watched on MLB.TV. (The full schedule is here.)

Thank you for the heads up on MLB broadcasts of Orioles games. In concert with the few MASN broadcasts, we will get to see the formation of this year’s team.

Let the games begin. This will without a doubt be the most interesting spring training in Oriole history, maybe, 1954 was probably very exciting being the first one. This ST is so unique for so many reasons/Questions. Who is the 1st,2nd and 3rd baseman going to be. Who’s in left. Who’s leading off. More importantly who is going to be in the starting rotation and bullpen. Crazy that we really don’t know for sure who they are. We have an Idea but no certainty at so many positions. Yikes O’s4ever
