Orioles notes & images from camp Day 12

*The pitchers had a day off today, so it was a much shorter workout.

*Pitcher Tommy Hunter has been dealing with some lower back tightness and the team is erroring on the safe side and having him pitch a two-inning simulated game instead of the scheduled game against the Red Sox. Oriole manager Buck Showalter said the team is being “cautious while you still can be” in regards to Hunter, and this way they can control the environment.

Updated pitching matchups for the first week of spring games, where each starter will go two innings include:

Monday- Brian Matusz (home) Alfredo Simon (road at Tampa Bay)

Tuesday- Chris Tillman and Dana Eveland

Wednesday- Wei-Yin Chen

Thursday- Jason Hammel and Armando Galarraga

Friday- Jake Arrieta followed by the bullpen

Saturday will reset the order with Matusz and Simon.

The intrasquad games on Friday and Saturday will feature each pitcher just throwing one inning and Arrieta and Hammel will start the first game and Galarraga and Chen on Saturday. For those curious, Dylan Bundy will throw in Saturday’s intrasquad game. The Orioles will call about nine players over from Minor League camp for those games, including Trent Mummey and Glynn Davis.

All of the team’s position players, with the exception of Nick Markakis (abdominal surgery) and Brian Roberts are expected to get into the intrasquad games, including top prospects Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop.  The games are closed to the general public, but Spring Training season ticket holders will be able to watch Saturday’s game.

*Oscar Villareal returned to camp today after missing yesterday’s workout to tend to some immigration issues.

*Catcher Ronnie Paulino, who is dealing with visa issues, is still not here but Showalter said his car showed up in Florida today. Read into that what you will.

*Tsuyoshi Wada (left elbow inflammation) played catch today from about 50 feet, doing 25 throws. He will do the same thing tomorrow, but with more intensity and could up on the mound sometime next week. Right now, he’s still on track to be able to start the season on time but Showalter cautioned another setback could put that in jeopardy. I’ll have more from Wada later on Orioles.com.

*I’ll also have a full story on top infield prospects Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop being in camp, and you can check that out on Orioles.com as well.

Britt, two questions:
How did Dylan Bundy look? And what minor league level do you see him at this year?

Thanks and keep up the great work!
