Orioles/Cardinals lineups and pregame tidbits

*The Orioles made it official this afternoon that Clay Rapada has been designated for assignment in order to make room for reliever Alfredo Simon, who was activated today.  With Rapada, Baltimore now has 10 days to trade, release, pass him through waivers or assign him to Class Triple-A Norfolk.  Simon gives the O’s a long reliever within a starting rotation that fails to go deep into games.

*Buck Showalter said Luke Scott is day-to-day and will be pinch hitting tonight for the Orioles, while Felix Pie plays left field tonight.  Scott said he felt some discomfort in his right shoulder, which has never been %100 since tearing it.  His right knee is still swolen, but is not severe enough to land him on the DL

Hey Britt,

I have enjoyed your blog and I also have an Orioles blog I was wondering if you would help spread the word a bit about my blog to help me get started?

Thanks a lot, Go Birds!

It’s a relief to find smeoone who can explain things so well

What does it mean to pass him through waivers?

Hey Chad …. When a player passes throught waivers, it means every team has passed on that particuar player. And he free to go anywhere he desires including the minor leagues. If any team picks a player on waivers then they work out a trade …. This is very common after the July 31 trading deadline.
