Clay Rapada designated for assignment
Reliever Clay Rapada was designated for assignment Wednesday to make room for activated right-hander Alfredo Simon.
The Orioles now have have 10 days to trade, release or put Rapapda on waivers.
Through 12 1/3 innings pitched in 22 relief appearances this season, the southpaw recorded a 7.30 ERA. Rapada, who signed a Minor League contract on April 18, was brought in to pitch against left-handed hitters. Against them, Rapada had a 1.69 ERA (two earned runs in 10 2/3 innings), but against right-handers the difference was drastic -a 43.20 ERA, giving up eight earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.
