Orioles/Cardinals lineups and pregame tidbits

*Alfredo Simon (strained right hamstring) reported to Frederick today and will likely be activated tomorrow.  Brad Bergesen is a potential candidate to be optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, although the Orioles could go with several long men and send out a guy like Clay Rapada.

Bergesen has an option remaining while Rapada would have to be exposed to waivers.  It’s also possible the Orioles remove a position player from their 25-man roster for Simon.

*Despite limited playing time, the Orioles will likely not be sending down Nolan Reimold.  Second baseman Ryan Adams was in a similar situation, where he was sent back to Norfolk because Baltimore did not want the majority of his time to be spent on the bench, but Showalter said that’s not the case with Reimold.

* The probable rotation against St. Louis and at Atlanta will be as follows: Weds.- Jakubauskas, Thurs.- Matusz, Fri.- Guthrie, Sat.- Arrieta, Sun. -Britton

*This will be the Cardinals first game in Camden Yards.  It will also be the first time that Chris Jakubauskas will face Lance Berkman since he was struck in the head with his line drive. To read more about that incident, and Jakubauskas’ unlikely journey to the Majors, check out the in-depth feature on Orioles.com here.

*Cal Ripken’s home run and move to shortstop in his final All-Star Game in 2001 in Seattle has made the “final four” in MLB’s Midsummer Classic Moments contest…Ripken’s moment will go head-to-head with Ted Williams’ walk-off home run in the 1941 All-Star Game for the right to advance to the final…The Orioles are encouraging fans to go online to http://mlb.com/moments and vote the maximum 25 times per e-mail address to help Ripken advance…Voting ends at noon on July 2.

It did seem that Duquette gave some political arnwess here. I wouldn’t begin to tell someone who has been as successful as Duquette how to do his job, but I hope he knows what to do in this situation. It’s really been rough to see this team hit rock bottom like it has.
