Derrek Lee starts against Toronto

First baseman Derrek Lee will make his first start (pending nothing goes wrong physically during batting practice), batting fifth Saturday against the Blue Jays since being put on the disabled list with a strained left oblique, taking the roster spot of left-hander Pedro Viola.

Lee was originally projected to return next week, but manager Buck Showalter said yesterday that he would be evaluated day-to-day. Lee went 2-3 with a walk as a leadoff designated hitter Friday night in a rehab start with Bowie.

Viola pitched 1 2/3 innings at Seattle Monday in his only appearance since being called up from Class Double-A Bowie.
