Scott has right groin strain
Outfielder Luke Scott exited Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Rays in the bottom of the seventh inning with a right groin strain and is day-to-day.
Manager Buck Showalter said Scott has had some tightness in that area the last few days and it tightened up when he came out of the batter’s box. Scott appeared to be laboring down the first base line as he beat out the Rays’ double-play attempt, instead reaching on a fielder’s choice. Felix Pie came on to pinch run and remained in the game in left field, gunning down B.J. Upton at the plate in the bottom of the inning.
Showalter said Pie, who is the better defensive outfielder, would have entered the game in the later innings regardless. The Orioles will reevaluate Scott on Sunday.
