Orioles/Red Sox lineups and pregame tidbits

*Justin Duchscherer threw live batting practice today (without the screen) and said he felt even better than the last time he threw. Manager Buck Showalter said yesterday that they were eying Tuesday for his first start, although Duchscherer said he wasn’t aware of the exact next step.

“I mean I want to get out there but its not like I’m going, ‘Oh god, oh god’,” Duchscherer said. “I’m taking every day day by day, I can’t get too far ahead of myself. I’ve been through this too many times to do that.”

He threw all his pitches, going about 45 pitches total between the live BP and warmups and although Duchscherer wasn’t thrilled with his command he felt physically fine. That’s the biggie right now.   

*Brian Matusz threw a bullpen session today with no problems and didn’t anticipate being behind at all. Matusz had a wart removed from his left middle finger yesterday and the initial feeling was he would miss his next spring start, but Matusz said today that he didn’t foresee that happening.

“We weren’t sure going into the laser process if it was going to be irritated the next couple days or not,” Matusz said. “It feels fine. It doesn’t feel irritated at all. It feels normal. Like I said before, it never affected me on the mound. It didn’t affect any of my pitches. We just wanted to fix it before it became a problem. It felt good. I threw all of my pitches and it was fine. I didn’t feel like I had to hold back at all, so I’m on schedule.”

*Luke Scott will take some early work at first base tomorrow and could see some spring action there soon.  He is Derrek Lee’s backup right now on the depth chart,according to Showalter. Jake Fox is considered a catcher first,and although it’s possible Tatum and Fox make the team, it doesn’t appear to be ideal.

*The earlier for Derrrek Lee to get in a game would be Monday. He’s not going to Fort Myers.
