Duke and Koji notes (updated)
*Orioles reliever and closer hopeful Koji Uehara received a Cortisone injection in his right elbow today and will be shut down for the next few days. Apparently he gets these pretty frequently so the team isn’t overly concerned at this point.
“It’s not even serious,” Uehara said through interpreter Jiwon Bang, describing his condition as “arm fatigue”.
I’m not concerned about it.”
*Justin Duchscherer threw 10 pitches off the half mound and 20 off the regular mound today and said his hip felt “perfectly fine”.
“It’s a learning process for me,” Duchscherer said, adding that he may have overly cautious when he first experienced some soreness. “It’s my landing leg. I had surgery on the other hip, so it’s completely different the way they operate.”
“For me going forward, if I have a little soreness, I won’t get as panicked as I was last time.”
*Also, the plan is for Derrek Lee to make his Grapefruit League debut on Saturday. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said they will check with him again after Saturday’s BP but that’s the date that Lee feels comfortable with.
*Josh Bell is getting the start at first base today and he’s been working with infield coach Willie Randolph.
