Farwell Kranitz, Hello Connor

Rick Kranitz has officially left the Orioles organization and will be the Astros Minor League pitching coordinator in a move made on Monday night. You can read details from my colleague Brian McTaggart here.

I haven’t spoken to Kranitz in a few days, but it’s safe to say his close friendship with Astros manager Brad Mills factored in to the move.

This move solidifies what has been written about for quite a while now: Mark Connor will be the Orioles next pitching coach.

I understand it’s a part of the business, but I know on a personal note I’m sad to see Kranitz go. He was always friendly and upbeat and great with the media. He always had time to talk and was insightful and helpful in fielding interview requests.

He answered plenty of stupid questions from this rookie reporter, I’ll tell you that. Best of luck, Kranny.
