Jones exits

BALTIMORE– Orioles centerfielder Adam Jones exited Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox in the top of the seventh inning with upper back soreness.

Jones, was hit by a pitch in his left shoulder blade in Chicago on Aug. 24 and missed the following week with lingering soreness. He returned to the lineup on Tuesday with no reported problems, but television replays on Wednesday showed him slamming his left shoulder into the wall to make a fourth inning catch on Adrian Beltre’s ball.

Jones remained in the game following that, but did not take his scheduled at-bat in the seventh inning.

“It wasn’t so much up against the wall,” manager Buck Showalter said when of the injury.  “The one swing [in his previous at-bat] really bit him. We talked after the at-bat, play defense because it’s happened a couple times and it’s kind of loosened back up, but it didn’t tonight.”

He was replaced by Jake Fox, who grounded into an inning-ending double play.  Jones went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double and a run scored in the first inning.
