Millwood for Thursday, Tillman to Norfolk

Orioles pitcher Kevin Millwood is expected to be activated from the disabled list and start on Thursday against the Twins, interim manager Juan Samuel confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

In order to make room for Millwood in the rotation, Baltimore optioned right-hander Chris Tillman to Triple-A Norfolk.  With Millwood not officially activated, the Orioles could call up someone to fill the open spot. They could add an extra arm or two in the next few days (Michael Gonzalez would be one) and also could open up another roster spot by optioning back rookie infielder Josh Bell.

Millwood has been on the disabled list since July 6 with a strained right forearm. The right-hander has endured a tough season and had a 10.20 ERA in his previous seven starts before going on the disabled list. Millwood’s return will push back the rest of the Orioles rotation by a day, pitting Jeremy Guthrie as Friday night’s starter.

These moves prove to me that this organization has no idea how to handle these young guys. Sending Tillman down and calling him up, and after a bad outing sending him back down until called upon again is just going to ruin these kids who are supposed to be the mainstay of an orioles future that consists of winning. Either keep him in AAA to get his innings(i dont care if he id dominating, its a little thing called confidence, something they are getting none of playing for the parent club), or keep him at the MLB level and let him take his beating and hope he learns from it pitching against the guys his future is going to consist of.

Also, the Josh Bell situation is just ridiculous. He is (supposedly) the future at 3rd. Keep him in AAA as long Tejada is here if you arent going to play Bell over him. Sitting him on the MLB bench is doing him no good.

This organization needs to learn how to use young players. I feel they are ruining careers by rushing players to get a team that isnt going to win games anytime soon. They need to get experience, but these guys dont know how to give it to them.
