Castillo DFA'ed

The Orioles designated Alberto Castillo for assignment to make room on the 40-man for tonight’s starter, Jake Arrieta. Arrieta will wear No. 57.

Castillo, 34, went 1-0 with a 10.13 ERA (10.2IP, 12ER) in 14 games for the Orioles this season.

Arrieta still won’t win if we only score 2 runs again against the Bankees —- tis more the hitting than the pitching now. –We have alot of young pitchers in place that will succeed sooner or later .An example Tillman did not pitch his best yesterday and he still held the Bankees to one earned run and our if patchwork infield hadn’t flubbed 3 errors giving the evil empire all the breaks it needed & IF WE HAD ANY KIND OF HITTING we should and could have won this game 5-4.
If we had regulars set at their positions and not made those errors we perhaps could have won 5-1 . I am truly not worried about the pitching –We have lost one of our best hitters and table setters (Roberts) who doesn’t look like he will be back anytime soon. We have our 34 year old utility man in the final year of his contract (Wigginton) who done everything except serve beer anchoring the middle of our lineup. We have a converted past his prime 3rd baseman , pot luck on 2nd base( Lugo,Moore,Wigginton) and a bum making 4.5 million (Atkins) hitting .214 who lost his stroke or his nerve or both sharing the 1st base duties. And you guys are worried about pitching??

Sandy Koufax couldn’t win with these hitters! Yes I know Luke Scott is having a good year ,Markakis although hitting for average can’t find his power stroke 3 homers and its June Wiggy is having a career year–Adam Jones is slowly coming around but he is leaning for the outside pitch ,still learning, still can’t work the counts into walks. THE CALVARY WILL BE WHEN WE GET A COUPLE OS SERIOUS BATS in the lineup . I can’t tell you when that will happen.

Castillo needs to get his game together. He likely will only get one more chance to prove he can pitch at a big league level. Needs to work on his command to keep the ball on the corners and be able to use all his pitches. Hope he can turn it around.
