Pie's replacements
If Felix Pie does warrant a DL trip (and I’m not saying he
does, but he might) the Orioles will likely recall Lou Montanez. Montanez
nearly made the team this spring when Nolan Reimold’s status was uncertain and
will allow manager Dave Trembley another option in the outfield. Since Reimold’s
still not 100 percent the team doesn’t want to run him out there every day.
Of course the best case scenario simply would be to avoid
putting Pie on the DL. But Trembley made it clear last night that the team is
committed to getting Pie’s left shoulder back in order. It’s a problem that
keeps creeping up and sidelining him for a few days at a time. So, the best
long-term solution probably would be to give Pie a chance to let his shoulder
fully heal.
