Lineup Shakeup & Rays/Orioles tidbits

Here are the lineups for
tonight’s game with the O’s sporting a different look, as manager Dave Trembley
hinted
at last night.

Matt Wieters will make his Major
League debut in the cleanup role, something he hasn’t done since last season in
the Minors.  He said he won’t approach it
any differently and was hopeful that the lineup shakeup would do more than just
benefit him.

Trembley had said this
spring that he wanted Wieters to grow into the cleanup role. But with an offense
lacking any firepower, some changes had to come down.

“It’s a good lineup for
tonight’s game against a very good pitcher [Jeff Niemann[," Trembley said. We've
struggled scoring runs, sometimes you shake it up a little and things just
break out. That's my intent, just see if it breaks out."

As for how Wieters will
handle the No. 4 spot, Trembley wasn't worried.

"The good ones have a
way of rising to the occasion. They don't change but it just gives them a
little maybe shot in the arm, they like being the guy," he said. "And Wieters
impresses me in a different kind of way. He's not boastful, he doesn't attract
a lot of attention to himself, but he's a very important guy around here. So, let's
give him a chance."

Other notable changes
are usual No. 2 hitter Adam Jones in
the fifth spot and Miguel Tejada
(who had been hitting cleanup) in Jones' old role. Felix Pie is leading off again following a 2-for-3 debut, including
a solo homer, out of the top spot.

Several O's, including Nick Markakis, were pretty vocal about the team's offensive woes. Let's hope they get it on track tonight with Matusz on the hill.
