Niemann Exits

The Orioles might have caught a break as Rays’ starter Jeff
Niemann just left the game after being struck in the right shoulder with a liner
from Miguel Tejada. He exited with one out in the second inning of Thursday’s finale.

The Rays anounced it was a
precautionary move and the right-handed Niemann is list as day-to-day with a contusion. Either way, Andy
Sonnanstine is in now instead. A former starter, Sonnanstine is a part of Tampa
Ba’s bullpen. He doesn’t have the same stuff as Niemann, but is pretty crafty.

Niemann threw 12 pitches on the night and retired the first four Orioles in order

Maybe you meant the title as some kind of a joke, but the gleeful “O’s force Rays to the pen” snark after Niemann is hit in the shoulder by a rocket comes off as really classless.

I’m sorry if I offended you. I forget how it’s hard to get across a joke on Twitter or a blog. Having covered the Rays and knowing Niemann personally, if I thought he was seriously injured I would never have made that crack. However, it hit him in the other shoulder and it looks to be more of a precautionary matter. Either way, I apologize and changed the title.
