Putting all the Orioles' eggs in one basket

Ok, I’ll admit that was more of Roch blog post title, but I
wanted to jump on here and recap yesterday’s
roster story.
The media gets today off (Thank you, Andy MacPhail for not
waiting on the roster until Sunday’s deadline) although Brad Bergesen will throw behind closed doors at the complex.

Who’s out:

*Robert Andino
designated for assignment

*Kam Mickolio to
Triple-A Norfolk

*Koji Uehara to
the 15-day
disabled list

Who’s in:

*Will Ohman’s
contract was purchased, meaning he’s on the team’s 25-man roster

*Julio Lugo, who was traded for on Thursday, assumes the utility backup spot

Here is how the
Orioles rotation shakes out, with their projected opponents this first week:

RHP Kevin
Millwood
vs. RHP James Shields

RHP Jeremy Guthrie
vs. RHP Matt Garza

LHP Brian
Matusz
vs. RHP Jeff Niemann

RHP Brad Bergesen vs
. RHP Brandon Morow  (Orioles home opener
vs. Toronto)

RHP David
Hernandez
vs. LHP Dana Eveland

And if you want to get excited for the season, Adam Jones was kind enough to do a Q
& answering a lot of questions about his goals -as well as the team’s – for
2010. You can check
that out here
.

*Finally, I want to
thank all of you for such a warm welcome to the Orioles beat. The emails,
Twitter messages and opportunity to meet some of you in Sarasota made for an
easy and incredibly positive transition to a new organization.

With my first Spring
Training with the O’s officially in the books, we’re just getting starting on
Orioles.com. So keep reading and providing feedback. I want to know what you think
of this year’s team, what questions you have and what guys you want to know
more about. This site and my blog are only as good as the people that read it.

Some of you have asked if I will be here all year and traveling to the road games. The answer to both questions is yes. I am the new Orioles.com beat reporter and hope you will continue to check back  here and on the site for an inside look into the team.

Here’s to a great season of baseball!
